Vocational Training
Students with social learning deficits are naturally drawn to animals because they are non-judgmental and so much more straightforward to understand. You get what you see and it's immediate feedback instead of the oftentimes calculated feedback you get with human interaction.
We excel in using horses to teach meaningful skills. After years of clinical-based therapies, students are able to have hands-on practice with many of the abstract life skills they've spent so long trying to internalize. These skills have become more important than ever now that they are starting to plan out what jobs might be of interest to them.
Students will get the opportunity to work with the horses on a daily basis. Through our unique vocational curriculum with the horses, our students will develop a strong foundation in barn-related work skills and basic equine management. We infuse our lessons with Social Thinking Curriculum by Michelle Garcia Winner and let the horses set the stage for a whole slew of natural social-emotional learning lessons. Each of these skills translates into developing the robust social mind needed to successfully acquire and maintain a job in any setting.
