Individual Therapeutic Programs
The H.E.A.R.T. Center was founded on the idea that recreation therapy programs could help bridge the gap between clinical & academic services and real life. Every program we offer is designed to build both recreational and fundamental life skills. Ultimately we use recreation as the driver to bring context and meaning to the skills being taught in all your other therapies.

Therapeutic Riding
"It's more than just a ride"
Therapeutic riding uses the horse as a catalyst to reach physical, cognitive, social and emotional goals. We work with the participant and the family to create an individualized therapeutic plan that is incorporated into each riding session.
HOW IT WORKS
Our students work with a team of PATH-certified instructors, trained volunteers, and steadfast horses to foster their functionality and independence. Personal confidence, emotional growth, and behavioral accountability are only a few of the developments that are facilitated through therapeutic riding. Skills such as balance, muscle control, flexibility, and attention are advanced through various riding activities and horsemanship responsibilities.
Riders are supported through a team of 1-3 volunteers who may assist them through leading the horse and/or providing physical or emotional support. Riders often begin in private sessions and as riding ability progresses, move into a group with students of likeability and riding skills to foster peer-peer social development.

Recreational Therapy
"Turning your preferred activities into the perfect therapeutic environment"
The skills, self-confidence and empowerment people gain while participating in sports and recreation activities, transfer into their daily lives and help them to become healthier, happier, and more productive students and individuals. The program introduces people with disabilities to new ways of being healthy and active.
HOW IT WORKS
Students work with a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or qualified activity professional through a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions as a means to develop and maintain Physical, Social, Cognitive, and Emotional function and well-being.
